If you
are new to flying sophisticated drones this drone is the ideal and cheaper way
to get into drone flying. It does not include all the fancy gizmos of the
modern drones but is a highly capable drone. For stunning night time flying I
installed strip LEDs on large blade protectors as well as forward facing white
LEDs mounted on the battery cover. For daytime use, the blade protectors
can be removed and LEDs unplugged. You can fly with the LED/blade protectors
during the day as they help with orientating the drone during distant flying.
Red LEDs visible when the drone faced you and green LEDs visible when flying
away from you. To extend flying time and make the drone accommodate different
battery packs and sizes I made an underslung Velcro battery holder that could
accommodate a 3S 11.1V 3200mAh E-flite 30C Lithium Polymer battery pack. The
standard 2.2mAh battery holder in the drone body can still be used if needed. I
stopped using it because some 2.2mAh battery packs differ slightly in size and difficult
to insert into the housing. Very important! When setting up this drone or
making program changes to the drone software is the NASA - M (V2) software
which is contained on a DVD which is included with the drone. I believe DJI no
longer provide this software on their website. The software will need to be
installed on a Windows computer and the drone connected to a USB port using the
cable supplied. After a long period of disuse the drone would not start until
connected to the NASA software and the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) checked.
